Asasaka Tokiya is a lazy, weak-minded fat guy with terrible grades, without any special talent, pathetic physical strength and no charisma who is easily manipulated by others. One day, he sees a pretty girl wearing the same uniform from his sister’s school and fall in love at first sight. Because of this school’s high level and Tokiya’s patheticness, he had no hope to get close to the girl, if not for his perfect imouto Meguri, who lectures him on, pretty much, how to become a better human being. She….fails!Well at least his grades became good enough so he could enter in her school and he also got slimmer, but everything else is pretty much the same. Noticing that Tokiya was still the same old loser, Meguri decides to perform a mystic ritual to make a life time worth of popularity with girls come at once, turning him “ultra-hot” with the females, but only for a short period of time. What? Did I forget to say she is a shrine maiden with magical powers? Because she is! Unfortunately, Tokiya is so hopeless that not even the gods can help him. That’s why his confession goes terribly wrong!Well, there is also the fact she is an air-head, but WHATEVER! He is such a Loser! Tokiya goes crying to his sister like she was freaking Doraemon but, this time, there was nothing she could do. Now he has to live the rest of that semester with the horrible curse of being incredible popular in his new school full of cute girls, and it is all his sister’s fault!
So basically: Tokiya is the worst main character I’ve seen on the Galges released this year. He fails at everything he tries to do, don’t know how to do house chores, is very indecisive and seems to become interested into things on a whim. That’s what makes him fall in love with the odd-eyed girl, and that’s also the reason why he loses interest on her as fast once any other girl confesses to him. He is always being toyed by the girls and is unable to give a decent comeback to their taunts. Tokiya also relies too much on Meguri for everything, and every time he makes an important decision by himself, it’s never the right choice! He rarely can do something useful for the heroines, as they end up helping themselves during their routes. It makes sense this bastard needed real magical powers to make the cast fall for him. I feel sorry for those girls who have to put up with this waste of human life.
Asasaka Meguri is pretty much the opposite of Tokiya. She bests him at anything possible, and many would think she is his older sister, especially because it was her who raised him during their parents long absence, which makes her technically his mother. Even so, she never complains about anything. She helps Tokiya to confess not only because she wants to see him happy, but also because she wants them to be in the same school. And, of course, she was always in love with him, no matter how big of a loser her brother is. However, there are times even Meguri can’t stand Tokiya’s lack of a brain, and she finally snaps by saying: “Even though I’ve made you into a handsome guy, there was nothing I could do about how pathetic you are!”. And this line is said at the climax of her route! She should be in love with him by that point, right?!
Shiratori Kanae is the fake main heroine. Since this game follows the same flow as “Unmei Yohou o Oshirase Shimasu”, this means you have to dump every single girl in the game just to get to her route. Is she worth it? Personally, I find her to be too bland. Aside from her appearance, there was nothing special about her. This is, until you get to the climax of her route, when you find out she also has shrine maiden magical powers! So no! she’s not worth it!
Tooshima Maina is Kanae’s best friend, she is a tomboy and a bit dumb, and that’s it! Since she is always close to Kanae, she is Tokiya’s first victim. If you stick up with her, you will find out you already knew everything there was to learn about her, and will have to sit through a very boring route. At least she is cute and there is lots of icha-icha events…
Yonaga Aoba is a very sadistic lady who is friends with Meguri. She lies about having a weak body just to take people off guard. She is actually one of those “perfect anime girls” who are able to beat a world champion when trying something for the first time, without any kind of training or study prior to it. Which means she is stronger than King Meruem, since he needs at least three matches before being able to defeat a national champ (Yes! I am comparing her to a monster!). She loves to show her superiority and takes pleasure seeing the faces of those defeated by her. There is but one flaw to her divinity: She can’t swim. That’s when Tokiya finds something useful to do. Even so, everyone agrees on one thing about their relationship: He would be pwned by her for the rest of his life! At least, you don’t need to be a masochist to appreciate her, I guess… As long as you don’t find her “Desuno”s to be annoying…
Mizunashi Miya is a senpai who had a brief meeting with Tokiya prior to the game’s events. Later, she recognizes her feelings as love, therefore, she thinks her feelings are genuine, but this is questionable, since she never got to know Tokiya properly before being cursed by him.
Yumemiya Yurika is a super energetic fake-loli-senpai who seems to have a sixth sense for troubled youngsters, because she always comes from nowhere to give advices (that end up being not so helpful, but at least, she tries!). She is “capturable” after watching Meguri’s end, but her route is as short as she is…
Aisaka Sarina is the school’s nurse. She is almost expressionless and sometimes act kinda childish. She is best friends with Yurika, but even the chibi-senpai doesn’t know much about her. This is until you become able to follow her route after completing all other heroines. It’s when she reveals to be a very sweet girl who always wanted to experience love, but was no good with this kind of stuff. Unfortunately, her route is the shortest in the game.
This time around, all the drawings are done by the same artist: Ikegami Akane, which is something very rare in Galges these days. I consider the quality of the drawings and the character designs to be very decent, since there’s no weird poses, consistence in styles and every heroine looks very different from each other, instead of looking like the same person using different wigs. This is specially hard to accomplish when the heroines have to use the same school uniforms, but Ikegami manages to do it, somehow.
And here I go repeating myself. It’s almost always the same thing for every Galge I play: Voice-acting is awesome – Soundtrack is mediocre. Since I am tired of typing the same thing over and over, I decided that I will only talk about those stuff when there’s something out of the ordinary.
Tokiya Sucks!! (A.K.A. Conclusion)
Don’t get me wrong! The cast of heroines is great, but Tokiya single handed nearly ruined the whole game for me! But if you have no problem with “hetare” type of characters, you should be ok with him, I suppose…
While I was playing this game, I felt like I was playing Sonic 3. I don’t want to play as Sonic! The only thing he can do is run really fast! Sonic sucks! I want to play as that other guy! That red…creature! THAT GUY! Knuckles! He’s WAY cooler than Sonic! Why can’t I have Knuckles as my main character? Damn it!
